Legendary bluegrass outfit The Seldom Scene heads an impressive lineup for the Ho Ho Holy Smoke BBQ & Bluegrass Festival being held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Union County Fairgrounds, 120 Kirby St., Union. The Grammy-nominated group, which formed in 1971 and is noted for its stellar musicianship and spellbinding vocal harmony, will be joined by fellow Grammy nominees The Grascals, which includes Union native Kristin Scott Benson on banjo, as well as regional favorites Backline and Split Rail. Antiseen, the self-proclaimed “badwill ambassadors,” will bring its raucous brand of no-frills rock ‘n’ roll to Ground Zero, 3052 Howard St., Spartanburg, for a performance on Friday, Dec. 6. Hailing from Charlotte, N.C., the group has been touring the world since the mid-1980s, delivering a powerful original sound that draws from a wide array of punk and metal influences and is often tinged with elements such roots genres as classic country and blues. A Spartanburg native who has lived in Nashville for more than a decade, Brian Ashley Jones will return to the Upstate for a performance on Friday, Dec. 6 at Fireforge Crafted Beer, 311 E. Jones burst onto the scene with his dazzling skills as a guitarist but has since developed into an equally impressive singer-songwriter whose soulful voice is perfectly suited for his distinctive brand of blues-flavored country music.
